National Wine Day - A Day Dedicated to Wine

National Wine Day

May 15, 2009

What day should we celebrate wine?

While we understand your first response may be  EVERYDAY (a very honest answer) we want you to choose only ONE day out of the entire year. Easy? No. There are many reasons why you may select a particular date over another and we want to hear why. Please tell about your selection by leaving a comment.

  1. Gotta think about all aspects of this - make it worthwhile for the trade to mount a campaign etc etc. when budgets are allocated: Therefore I chose November 1 as a sort of kick-off for the holidays, vs a summer month. My 2 cents and easily convinced otherwise.

  2. Instead of a set month & day, I suggest the Beaujolais Nouveau approach, i.e. a set day of a week in a specific month. This would be much easier to remember. How about the first Tuesday of December? Why? Full repeal of Prohibition came on December 5, 1933 (a Tuesday).

  3. Thanks, really like your idea, will add it to the poll.

  4. I picked March 23 TH…just because I liked the TH instead of the RD that should have been there! March twenty thirth sounds more like a wine day.

  6. This is the day of our annual get together with our group of 8 women friends who love to drink good red wine!! We spend the weekend away at our mountain retreat.

And it is the birthday of my golden retrievers, one who is named Pinot!

  8. All of us in the wine biz want to be free to show up. Please not in the middle of harvest!! My vote, November 1st., to celebrate the end of another harvest.

  9. Repeal just seems so appropriate but why not make it a day to support the responsible use and enjoyment of all alcoholic beverages?

  10. or after the harvest like Rudy’s excellent suggestion but same theme as my idea.

  11. I agree it should be a specific saturday of a specific month. Wine day should definitely be celebrated on a weekend - we need enough hours in the day to enjoy the wine and a day to rest from the enjoyment before going back to work. I think the 2nd saturday in October!!!!

  12. The first few months of each year most of us are still recovering from all the winter holiday hubbub, summer is filled with vacations and some super hot days, and November is too close to the beginning of the holiday circus. Therefore, I picked Sept. 29th. Beginning of beautiful fall weather, but still warm enough to enjoy sitting on the deck and sipping some great wine! However, any day that is picked will be the perfect excuse for a wine party!

  13. I picked Sept. 29 because I agree with Kelly that the begining of the fall season is a perfect time to celebrate National Wine day!

  14. Kelly does have a good idea with great reasoning.

  15. Some of the days you picked are enar other holidays–January 21st is near MLK Day; 11/1 and 10/30 surround Halloween; 2/22 is near President’s day; 8/28 is near Labor Day, etc. How about September 20th - 22nd, which is the Fall Equinox?

    Comment by Jean — June 10, 2009 @ 2:57 pm
  16. Jean thanks for you input, September is gaining traction.

  17. I like a late Fall date, but would prefer a day instead of date, ie. 4th Friday in Sept. or 2nd Sat in Oct. Fall speaks of Beaujolais, vendange and great weather.

  18. We are also thinking a set day instead of date makes better sense. Thanks for your input!

  19. Everyday that ends in Y should be a National Wine Day… I voted for December 2 (my wino cousins birthday) but I really would like December 5th my birthday as there is no historical happen on my day known to man to date.
